Santa Claus is bringing his Christmas magic to Geneva more than ever before during 2018! For the first time, you’ll have a chance to experience a new and enchanting Christmas Village in the beautiful surroundings of Parc des Bastions in the center of town! This will be THE place to get you in the Christmas mood. 

Taste local specialties such as raclette and fondue, sweet treats and enjoy a glass of warming mulled wine, while you stroll around the stalls offering traditional crafts and Christmas handicrafts.  The ice-skating rink promises loads of fun for the little ones.  

The new Christmas Village, which will stretch over 8.000 square meters, will consist of traditional wooden cabins selling local food and drinks and offering special Christmas shopping in a traditional Swiss yuletide setting! A special lounge bar offering wintry drinks, including mulled wine, will be the place to hang out with family and friends.  Try a traditional Swiss meal such as a cheese fondue or raclette in a typical Swiss wooden chalet, or opt for a luxurious lobster roll.

Montreux – best and biggest Christmas market in the region

The Montreux Christmas market is located along the beautiful lakefront with spectacular views over the snow-capped Alps. More than 100 open-air chalets offer traditional Christmas gifts and trinkets. When it comes to food, you’ll be spoiled for choice with traditional cheese favourites such as fondue, raclette and tartiflette, as well as traditional German sausages, waffles, churros and more.

This market is a real hit with families.  Don’t miss Santa on his flying sleigh – for everyone who believes in Santa, regardless of your age! (between the Lumberjack village and the Place du Marché).

‘Elves Square’ is a part of the market where children will be able to follow special workshops or heat up a sausage over an open fire. And, did you know it is even possible to visit the real Santa Claus who lives in the mountains above Montreux? Take the typical Swiss scenic cogwheel train to go up the Rochers-de-Naye mountain right from Montreux train station to visit Santa Claus in his office! You can have your picture taken with Santa Claus in this magical setting and visit a real Christmas village in Caux. Santa and his elves live on Rocher-de-Naye from 22 November until 24 December. Christmas at Chillon Castle

A medieval castle in a romantic setting along the lake transforms into a fairytale Christmas atmosphere. See how Christmas was celebrated in this beautiful castle, one of Switzerland’s best, in the olden days as the castle comes to life during this time. Sounds, smells and beautiful trees all add to the ambiance.  Arts and crafts demonstrations and workshops ranging from calligraphy and cookery to candle-making will keep the whole family entertained.

The castle is a day-trip from Geneva and is open on the first three weekends of December.

Chateau de Coppet

Surrounded by stunning wintry mountains, the small village of Coppet, only a short drive from Geneva, also hosts a five-day Christmas market in their 18th century chateau.
It’s great fun for the family, with an ice skating rink, visits from Santa and baking workshops for children.

LIGHT UP THE SKY – Geneva Lux Festival

It may be cold and dark outside, but thanks to the annual Geneva Lux Festival a series of festive and fantastic light displays will illuminate the city and lift the collective spirits from the 1st of December until mid-January.

Initiated in 2014, the festival features contemporary light displays especially created for Geneva by Swiss and international artists showcasing Geneva’s heritage.

Wrap up warm and take the family for an evening stroll to admire these amazing modern light ‘sculptures’ adorning public squares and streets around Geneva. The event is free.
