Plainpalais Cemetery

The burial place of Geneva’s most eminent citizens.

Also called the ’Geneva Pantheon’, it is a haven of peace and serenity in the city centre. Personalities who left their mark on Geneva's history are buried here, such as Calvin or Sofiya Dostoyevsky.

Constructed in the 15th century, the local name for this place is Cimetière des Rois (Cemetery of Kings). Tribute is paid to Genevan personalities, amongst them the reformer Jean Calvin, the first modern cartoonist Rodolphe Töppfer, the French comedian François Simon, the Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges, the world famous psychologist Jean Piaget, and the daughter of Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
