Audre Lorde - I Am Your Sister

Discussion autour de l’œuvre poétique et féministe d'Audre Lorde organisée en collaboration avec les Bibliothèques municipales, le Centre de traduction littéraire et la fondation Bibliomedia à Lausanne

A literary gathering centred on poet and activist Audre Lorde (1934–1992) to discuss her relationship with memory, resilience, struggles, sisterhood and the death of her work, with distinguished guests from the worlds of translation, performing arts, publishing and Afrofeminism.

Audre Lorde (1934-1992), poet and essayist, was a librarian and professor of English literature, a lesbian feminist activist committed to the defence of civil rights in the United States. At the beginning of her public readings, Audre Lorde would say:

‘I speak to you as a poet, a black woman, a feminist, a lesbian, a mother, a warrior, a teacher and a cancer survivor.’ Before her death, during an African baptism ceremony, Lorde took the name Gamba Adisa, which means Warrior: she who makes herself understood. In 1991, she was named Poet Laureate of New York State. Today, she is one of the most famous icons of the American black feminist movement. The Geneva-based publishing house Mamamélis has published her autobiography Zami and several volumes of essays, including the essential Sister Outsider.

Speakers:

Rina Nissim, founder of Mamamélis Publishing, the first publishing house to translate and publish Audre Lorde in French, nurse, naturopath and activist
Sandrine Montin, translator and lecturer in general and comparative literature at the University of Côte d'Azur, member of the CTELA laboratory.
CABBAK, a collective of Afro-feminist readers from Biel/Bienne
