Catherine Ringer / the Eroticism of Living
Description
Writing about her passion for love, words and moments is what 97-year-old poet Alice Mendelson has done all her life.
Mauro Gioia stages this sensual ode to life with the unique voice of Catherine Ringer and the music of Grégoire Hetzel.
"Never rush through life". This is one of the leitmotifs of Alice Mendelson, who in an age where alienation is a threat, persists in experiencing the smallest events of everyday life with a radiant joy, synonymous with an acute awareness of the world. This joy could be nothing but pain for this woman who survived the Vél'd'Hiv round-up and whose father perished in Auschwitz. Instead, it resembles a lucid wonderment that has discreetly percolated through the scattered poems, written over more than 70 years and preserved in her archives... With a language that is both loving and playful, allowing herself all kinds of audacity, Alice Mendelson celebrates eroticism in the feminine in these texts that would undoubtedly have remained hidden without the eyes and the collective impulse of the trio of artists. Touched by the power and generosity of her writing, they have imagined this poetic performance together as a dance full of humour and mystery, which gives pride of place to the grain of Catherine Ringer's voice.
ALICE MENDELSON
Alice Mendelson, known to generations of students as Madame Rohman, lived a fulfilling, passionate and generous life as a French teacher. Writing was a secret activity for years. Today, at more than 90 years of age, she feels the need to bear witness to her loved ones: childhood moments in the Ashkenazi milieu of Paris in the 1930s, a young Jewish girl tormented by history in the 1940s, having escaped the Vel d'Hiv roundup, waiting for the father who disappeared for the rest of her life, a storyteller at retirement age.
