Chuchchepati Orchestra meets DARA Strings – Exceptional Concert

The Chuchchepati Orchestra is a sound system originating from Kathmandu, comprising up to 32 horn loudspeakers. Used as a polyphonic installation, they diffuse different instrumental ensembles. Founded by Patrick Kessler, double bassist and experimental musician based in Gais (Appenzell), the orchestra takes its name from a district of Kathmandu and from the Nepali word “Chuchchepati,” meaning “horizon.”

DARA Strings is a variable collective of string instrumentalists, first brought together around the annual DARA String Festival in Berlin, founded and directed by Biliana Voutchkova. The festival gathers international artists and presents innovative, multigenre music ranging from contemporary to experimental and improvised forms.

For KorSonoR, the Chuchchepati Orchestra collaborates with musicians from the DARA String Festival to develop a new multichannel spatial work. Sounds are projected into space by the horn loudspeakers, complemented by electronics, creating an immersive soundscape.
