Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D minor
Ludwig van Beethoven
Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92

To mark the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s death, Daniele Gatti is conducting a symphonic cycle of the composer’s works, spanning two seasons.
The fourth and final instalment of our Beethoven Cycle for this season brings together the exceptional violinist Vilde Frang – making her debut with the OSR – and Daniele Gatti for an evening dedicated to German Romanticism.
Long overlooked before being rediscovered, Schumann’s Violin Concerto – the composer’s sole contribution to the genre – combines introspection with intensity. In the second half, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, famously described by Wagner as ‘the apotheosis of dance’, carries us along with its rhythmic energy and jubilant vitality.
