For Give it to me – the musical, LaRata (ESP) invited several artists to imagine a performance inspired by the singers or themes from her eponymous book, translated by Virginie Despentes. The show was created in collaboration with Cabaret La Bouche (Bili Bellegarde, Mascare, Soa de Muse), Melissa Laveaux, and Mila Furie.

The result: duets, covers, spoken word, lap dance numbers, guitar solos, trios, lipsyncs. Because everyone knows and responds to each other — because they’re all dykes, all artists whose work engages with music and radical feminism — what emerges is eighty minutes of performance telling a single story:

Lesbians, unite.

It’s sexy, hilarious, moving — and maybe most surprising of all is watching how lesbians reclaim what’s theirs: the hypersexualized body of the performer on stage.
