At the age of twenty, in 1961, Bruno Ganz left his native Zürich and travelled to Berlin to work as an actor at the Schaubühne, a prestigious German theatre. From thereon, the success he found there would never dissipate. His career on the screen will lead him to work with Wim Wenders, who will cast him in unforgettable roles in The American Friend and Wings of Desire, Alain Tanner who directs him in In the White City, Peter Handke in his The Left-Handed Woman, Volker Schlöndorf who gives him the role of falsifier, and many more including Swiss filmmakers Jakob Berger and Fredi Murer… Ganz would even play a stunning Hitler in The Downfall. He would continue to shower the silver screen with his talent until the most recent projects by Lars Von Trier and Terrence Malick, filmed right before his death on 16 February 2019.
