Instrumental Encounter #10

The “Instrumental Encounters” are a collaborative initiative between the MEG and the Ateliers d’ethnomusicologie (ADEM). These musical gatherings offer an opportunity for musicians to introduce their instruments and repertoire to the public.
This encounter offers an introduction to instruments characteristic of Basilicata, Calabria and Sicily — zampogne, ciaramelle, tamburelli, flutes and organetti — which are now little known beyond their regions of origin.
Nicola Scaldaferri, Domenico Morello and Vincenzo Di Sanzo will present their forms, timbres and uses through demonstrations and exchanges with the audience.
Rooted in the rural world and shaped by pastoral traditions, this highly inventive repertoire also highlights the essential role of dance in collective life and the social value it holds within communities in Southern Italy.
