After a highly acclaimed performance at La Bâtie last year, American organist and composer Kali Malone returns to the Victoria Hall to present the Swiss premiere of her new project, accompanied by the brass of Ensemble Contrechamps and the voices of Macadam Ensemble. All Life Long, her album which was released earlier this year, is a compilation of music for organ, choir, and brass. In her quest for harmonies, Malone reappropriates polyphonic writing to give it a new dimension. Listening to the twelve tracks that make up the album, the listener feels strangely drawn from the outside in as much as the other way round. Malone’s music develops with extreme slowness, transforming gradually to better reveal itself and arouse intimate emotions, like those that emerge in a quiet moment of contemplation. She follows the sound, interweaving and at times resurrecting themes in a new piece to convey a different atmosphere. Like a magician, Kali Malone succeeds in creating an atmosphere that can arouse an unsuspected emotional resonance in everyone.
