Léo Stefanelli is a Swiss graphic designer trained at the School of Applied Arts in Geneva, where he was also born. He develops a creative practice at the crossroads of experimental graphic design and human-centered photography.
For Stefanelli, graphic design is first and foremost a structured communication system — one he takes pleasure in deconstructing. Influenced by Wolfgang Weingart’s collage techniques, he explores typography as a field of tension between rigor and spontaneity.
His work draws inspiration from the Swiss Style of the 1950s, which he playfully disrupts with unexpected organic and expressive visual elements. Through this formal exploration, he constantly questions the role of form: must it solely serve the message, or can it also become a vessel for emotion?
His design, both committed and sincere, combines industrial minimalism with a color palette reminiscent of the living world. Within it, he scatters signs and clues — milestones of an inner journey leading to visual discoveries.
In photography, his approach is deeply humanistic. His series focus on the emotional and physical experiences of his subjects, paying particular attention to those whose pain is invisible. He seeks, for instance, to evoke the silent suffering of people living with chronic illnesses such as endometriosis.
His goal is to foster social recognition nurtured by emotion and sustained by empathy. Between conceptual design and sensitive photography, Léo Stefanelli builds a hybrid universe where every form and composition carries meaning, tension, and humanity.
