Driven by a desire to reshuffle the deck, given that the wrongs have been done and inequalities persist, Leïla Ka’s first group piece evokes sisterhood,
female friendships, past battles, and the struggles ahead.
This is a strong, expressionist piece, performed by five dancers with a clear sense of rage, who change their dresses like they change their lives, expressing their resourcefulness and their desire to rewrite the present.
With her hard-hitting performances, young and promising choreographer Leïla Ka – who made her debut with Maguy Marin and was seen at La Bâtie in 2021 – sets out to tell the story of the grey areas of our lives. Convinced that chaos can be an engine of freedom, she dances with the cracks in our intimate and collective histories.
