No need to speak Yiddish to grasp the verve and burlesque potential of the Marx Sisters; they breathe new life into Yiddish song, combining humor, energy, and vocal virtuosity.
Distant relatives of the Marx Brothers and spiritual granddaughters of the Barry Sisters, Judith and Leah form a vocal duo with finely crafted arrangements. They embrace the Yiddish language and celebrate it by performing traditional pieces as well as more recent ones, served with panache by their musical accomplices. From bouncy choruses to languid melodies, from deep cries of sadness to prayers filled with hope, the Marx Sisters have chosen to affirm that Yiddish is a very much a living language, one that ricochets off the keys of the accordion, brushes against the strings of the guitar, and unfolds in the grace of a captivating voice...
Judith (vocals) and Leah (vocals, guitar) are true sisters, true singers, and their real name is Marx. The Marx Sisters, the finest of Yiddish song, formed in Paris in 2013, travel across France and Europe, accompanied by Raphaël Setty (accordion), Charles Rappoport (violin), Benjamin Chabert (double bass and guitar), and Richard Cailleux (drums).
The group sings with a new lease of life the repertoire of Yiddishland, interwoven with frenzied klezmer melodies. A breath of fresh air, because their universe and their first two albums have been acclaimed by critics and audiences alike (Télérama, Le Monde, Radio Nova, etc.).
