This arrangement pays tribute to Duke Ellington’s rise in 1930s Harlem as a composer and bandleader. Commissioned specifically for the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and saxophonist Branford Marsalis, the work is based on some of the Duke’s best-known pieces: Rockin’ in Rhythm, Sophisticated Lady, In a Sentimental Mood and It Don’t Mean a Thing.
