An evening steeped in Romanticism: Strauss as breath, Bruckner as horizons — Laurent Gay’s jubilee concert, fifteen years at HEM and nearly thirty premieres.

Clémence Tilquin soprano

Richard Strauss
Six Lieder for voice and orchestra
Anton Bruckner
Symphony No. 4 in E-flat major ‘Romantic’
Between Strauss and Bruckner, this evening is placed under the sign of incandescent Romanticism: in the Six Lieder, soprano Clémence Tilquin combines intimacy and momentum, supported by a supple and warm-sounding orchestra. Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony opens with the call of the horn, unfolds its pastoral landscapes and ignites in a finale of almost monumental proportions.
Performed by the HEM Orchestra, a true high-level training orchestra, and under the direction of Laurent Gay, this programme showcases young musicians already fully engaged with the demands of professional practice.
At the head of a deliberately small cohort, Laurent Gay trains the next generation of conductors. His demanding yet open pedagogical approach, combining intensive practical work, projects with partner orchestras and immersion in the professional field, is one of the cornerstones of HEM’s training at the highest level.
