Best rooftop bars in Geneva
If you want to know how cool a city is, check out its rooftop bars!
Geneva has some very funky rooftop bars – with something for every taste. Whether you like to party under the stars, admire spectacular views with a luxury cocktail or mocktail in hand or simply hang out with the locals in a quirky Brooklyn-style setting, Geneva’s got a rooftop for you.
A firm favourite on Geneva’s local scene, this city centre rooftop bar offers the expected spectacular views, but lacks a bit of swish factor, if you ask us.
The bar is situated on top of a commercial building on Geneva’s posh Rue du Rhône (you take the lift op from the lobby).
The outdoor terrace is always full because of the stunning views over Geneva’s show off tourist beacons – including the Jet D’Eau and the lake. The decor inside is on the drab side, but that doesn’t appear to put anyone off. Order a cocktail and a snack or meal – (burgers, sushi or tapas) and enjoy some people watching.
The bar often hosts live events and it’s not a bad place if you’re in the mood for dancing till the early hours.
WHERE: Rue du Rhône 42, 1204 Geneva
WHEN: 10h00 à 02h00 from Tuesday to Sunday.
Rooftop Hotel Métropole Geneva
Want to feel like a celebrity or impress your date or guests, this is the rooftop for you! From when you step out onto the red carpet, you feel like a celebrity.
The views over Geneva’s lake dotted with luxury yachts, the mountains and the buzzing city at your feet, take your breath away.
The service is exceptional for Geneva and the décor plush and luxurious – be sure to reserve a table in the front overlooking the lake! You don’t want to be hidden down the side of the terrace if you’re trying to impress your guests.
The drinks menu offers a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails and other drinks, which are beautifully presented, and on the Swiss and international tapas menu, we opted for samosas and falafels, which looked great and were delicious. Other options included Geneva crudités, oriental mezzes and Asian skewers. Don’t see anything you like on the menu, ask the barman to mix you a drink of your choice – alcoholic or non-alcoholic.
Dress to impress – and be prepared for premium prices., this is a prime tourist spot!
Music – understated, 70s-inspired Deep House vibes. Well-suited to the classiness of the venue, we thought.
WHERE: Quai du Général-Guisan 34, Hôtel Métropole Genève, 1204
WHEN: From May to September, 7 days a week, from 5pm onwards.
Floor 2 Bar, Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva
More of a terrace, than a rooftop, but we thought we’d throw it in anyway because of the great views and party potential! This bar with glass windows wall to wall is popular with locals who like to party till the early hours to the DJs beats. If you’re looking for a quiet chat, this is not the place during the evening.
The atmosphere is a bit on the hotel lounge side for our liking, but the vibes and views make up for this!
To drink choose from cocktails, a wide selection of wine and beer and spirits and non-alcoholic drinks, including a great selection of juices. Food options include tapas platters, salads and pizzas.
Dress is smart casual.
