PROFETI DELLA QUINTA …les lamentations de David

In this brand new program, the Profeti della Quinta ensemble presents the musical sets of biblical texts, composed by Claudio Monteverdi, Salomone Rossi and, closer to us, by Elam Rotem.
This original program includes the "Lamentations of David," a new creation based on the original Hebrew text found in the second book of Samuel. The music composed by Elam Rotem in the musical language of Monteverdi and Rossi, is played regularly all over the world, such as the 3-act drama “Joseph and his brothers” premiered in Geneva in 2013.

Ensemble Profeti della Quinta was founded by Elam Rotem and is currently it is based in Switzerland, where its members have undertaken further study at the Schola Cantorum in Basel. Focusing on repertoire of the 16th and early 17th centuries, Ensemble Profeti della Quinta aims to create vivid and expressive performances for audiences today while, at the same time, considering period performance practices.

In 2011, Ensemble Profeti della Quinta won the York Early Music Young Artists Competition and has since toured Europe, North America, Japan, China and Israel. It has performed in such prestigious festivals and venues as the Oude Muziek Festival Utrecht, the Potsdam Musikfestspiele, the Shanghai Concert Hall and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York).

The ensemble has recorded two CDs of the music of the early Baroque Jewish-Italian composer Salamone Rossi, a CD of the Penitential Psalms by Orlando di Lasso, a CD with music by Luzzasco Luzzaschi, a CD with music from the recently discovered Carlo G manuscript, a CD which is a collection of madrigals, and also two CDs with pieces by Elam Rotem: "Joseph and his Brethren" and "Quia amore langueo" ["for I am sick with love"].
