The best of summer in Geneva
There is no lack of terraces in Geneva and they reveal themselves during the first beautiful days. Revelling in a drink by the lake has never been so soothing! The small cafés near the famous Jet d'Eau are very pleasant and offer snacks, cold drinks and ice cream for the gourmands. A bit further away, the summer entertainment of L'Escale offers a unique space to relax, play outdoors and listen to good DJs. Stroll a little further and you will reach the open-air cinema, offering a beautiful space high up to enjoy the view.
The right bank of the lake is not to be outdone and offers its own selection of appealing terraces. La Terrasse and the Bains des Pâquis (Pâquis Baths) welcome you in a relaxed atmosphere with a breathtaking view of the harbour and the Jet d'Eau. Under clear skies Mont Blanc can be seen emerging on the horizon. Don’t hesitate to read through our articles Lakeside bars/cafés and Best rooftop bars for more details.

Both young and old will have fun. Are you missing the mountains? The Salève is located just a 15-minute drive from Geneva, the ideal place for a family hike in the great outdoors, right in the heart of the mountain pastures. The hike is easily accessible by cable car in five minutes and can be as long as you wish for the sporty ones among you! The picnic break or the blueberry pie at the snack bar will delight the finest gourmands.
For aspiring acrobats, we have another idea! The Parc des Evaux, located close to the Rhône, boasts the largest urban park in Switzerland and a treetop adventure park with 11 routes for adventurers from 3 to 99 years of age! Here’s a secret: the adventure park hosts the three longest parallel zip lines in Europe: Are you brave enough?
A ride on a bicycle: sounds like holiday spirit! And in Geneva, the bicycle is the star and the perfect way to explore the city and its region in the great outdoors. Good news, from mid-April to mid-October bike-hire is free for four hours from the Genève Roule points. Set out, for example, to discover the harbour and enjoy a little siesta in the park or a gourmet break with a delicious ice cream.
Hiring a bike for the day or for several days is also a good idea which will allow you to explore nearby regions, notably the superb wine-growing areas. Guided tours by electric bike also allow you to explore the surroundings peacefully with the best explanations throughout the ride! Pedal through the heart of the vineyards or the parts of the city not to be missed!
What a pleasure to make the most of the lake right in the heart of the city!
