Boubacar, a young Canadian executive, is sent by his mining company to his parents’ homeland in Guinea Conakry to solve a problem with the local population. Moved by the locals’ passionate opposition to the mining, as well as by the violent practices of his employers, Boubacar little by little begins to question the very foundations of his world-view. It is a snapshot of multinational corporations, mining operations, and their human consequences. Fuelled by Noir Canada by Alain Deneault and by a writing residence in West Africa, Coeur Minéral is a choral piece by the Quebec author Martin Bellemare, which, under the guise of telling the story of events in the Third World, is actually blowing the whistle on multinational corporations based in Canada, Switzerland and other parts of the world.
