His appearances with Paco de Lucia in the 1980s are legendary: Al Di Meola, famous as the lightning-fast electric guitarist in Chick Corea’s jazz-rock band, Return to Forever, picked up the acoustic guitar and confronted the flamenco master live. Together with British jazz-rock guitarist John McLaughlin, they recorded Saturday Night in San Francisco, the most successful acoustic guitar album worldwide to date. With his World Sinfonia ensembles and albums, he repeatedly demonstrated a musical curiosity that goes beyond the boundaries of jazz: Al Di Meola wrote jazz history and, along with Pat Metheny, can undoubtedly be counted among the most remarkable jazz guitarists of our time. With his current Acoustic Trio, Al Di Meola picks up the thread without copying the “old days”: percussion and subtle electronic effects create a catchy and modern sound. On October 17, 2025, the Al Di Meola Acoustic Trio will perform its only concert in French-speaking Switzerland at the magnificent Victoria Hall in Geneva. A musical fireworks display is guaranteed!
