Mummenschanz Says Goodbye!

Affiche Mummenschanz

After more than half a century of showcasing a unique visual theater style that originated in Switzerland and has been celebrated worldwide, Mummenschanz is embarking on its farewell tour. With *Adieu!*, the legendary company offers audiences one last poetic journey through its wordless universe, before bowing out in 2027.

After 55 years of theatrical history, the Swiss mask theater company Mummenschanz bids farewell to its audience with the Adieu! tour. Since 1972, the ensemble has enchanted audiences on every continent with a unique theatrical language—free of words, music, or sets—that is poetic, timeless, and universally understandable.

Adieu!, conceived by Floriana Frassetto, brings together highlights from more than five decades: iconic figures, unusual objects, and surprising new images blend into an imaginary journey imbued with poetry, subtle humor, and magic. A moving theatrical experience for all generations, and the last opportunity in Switzerland to experience a piece of Swiss theater history.

The tour kicks off on December 3, 2026, in Zurich and will continue through the end of 2027 at 25 theaters across Switzerland. Audiences in French-speaking Switzerland will have the chance to see the show on January 15 and 16 at the Théâtre du Martolet in Saint-Maurice, from April 16 to 18 at the Théâtre de Beaulieu in Lausanne, and from November 19 to 21, 2027, at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices (BFM) in Geneva.

The History of Mummenschanz
Founded in 1972 by Bernie Schürch, Andres Bossard, and Floriana Frassetto, Mummenschanz was born out of their meeting in Paris and their desire to create a visual theater without words. The company quickly achieved international success, particularly in the United States, where it performed for several years on Broadway and appeared on cult shows like The Muppet Show.

After Andres Bossard’s death in 1992, Floriana Frassetto continued the adventure and revitalized the troupe. Invited to Expo.02, then on a world tour for its 40th and 50th anniversaries, Mummenschanz remains a symbol of Swiss creativity exported around the world. In 2026, the company will embark on its farewell tour, bringing to a close more than five decades of theatrical history.
