AM ANGKLUNGKLANG, or when two gamelans are placed in the hands of Ensemble Batida.
This Indonesian gamelan consists of metal and bamboo percussion instruments, including the angklung, a shaken instrument that gives its name to the project. Arranged on the ground in a large rectangle, the instruments become an innovative stage setup, inviting an immersive and powerful experience where the audience can move freely by the instruments and musicians.
No traditional repertoire here. All sounds come exclusively from the instruments, sculpted and transformed live by David Poissonnier’s live electronics. The co-composition, divided into eight chapters, spans a four-hour format in its full version: the stretched temporality draws inspiration from the original rituals of the gamelan.
The audience is free to enter and leave the performance at any time.
