André Bucher - son art volcaniques (sculptures et peintures)

Exhibition at the Centre culturel du Manoir (Cologny)

Portrait d'André Bucher s'appuyant sur une de ses sculptures

André Bucher, a world-renowned painter and sculptor from Geneva, devoted fifty years of his life to his art. He was the first and only person, with his expedition, to climb the flanks of erupting volcanoes, to tap into molten lava, the original source of our world, matter of matter, as he liked to call it. Lava holds limitless artistic potential and became an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the artist. In his sculptures, lava is combined with bronze, stainless steel, aluminum and Plexiglas. He perfected his art with powerful red and black drawings and paintings using the craquelé technique he had developed and of which he became a master.
Like a volcano, he never stopped bubbling over with ideas. This exhibition pays tribute to this Colognote, who would have been 100 years old, and his impressive volcanic work. It plunges us into his symbolic universe, marking the reconciliation between man, nature and creation.
