From 3 to 12 October, Animatou returns for its 19th edition, exploring the theme of time through animation. The 2024 poster, designed by Thomas Perrodin, depicts a giant hourglass, symbolising the passage of time, memory and history in the face of contemporary disinformation. It's also an invitation to take our time, discover and share.
Animatou runs for 10 days in various cultural venues around Geneva.
From the thousand or so animated shorts submitted to the festival, around a hundred have been selected to take part in our 13 competitions, covering international, documentary, experimental and Swiss categories.
As well as the official selection of shorts, Animatou invites you to discover two magnificent and committed feature films in their Geneva premiere: Sauvages by Claude Barras and Flow by Gints Zilbalodis. The traditional free screening of the winners will give you the chance to see all this year's award-winning films, or see them again. The Best Of Annecy and Best Of Annecy Kids screenings will round off the festival.
Alongside the film programme, a number of meetings will give you the chance to talk to Swiss illustrators in partnership with Payot Libraire during the Swiss Day, to gain a better understanding of the challenges of artificial intelligence in animation, or to discover a selection of works in virtual reality.
Finally, to round off your evenings, head to the ‘Chez Jean-Luc’ bar to rock out to the rhythms of Geneva's electronic music scene until you run out of steam!
We look forward to seeing you there!
