Art Brut from three perspectives
Interview
A work by French artist Marie Lieb (1844-1917) is on show at MIR as part of the exhibition Voir l'invisible. L'Art Brut et l'au-delà. More precisely, her creation is reproduced on the basis of old photographs by artist Mali Genest. A large celestial landscape composed of shreds of fabric unfurls on the floor of one of the museum's rooms. Mali Genest will explain to the public the genealogy of this installation and what it inspires her.
Alongside her, Qigong specialist Véronique Terrier will talk about this Chinese practice, attested as far back as the 4th century BC, which is based on the unification of body, breath and mental energy. Qigong is at the heart of the inspiration of Chinese artist Guo Fengyi, three of whose works are on show at MIR.
Finally, art historian and EPFL lecturer Véronique Mauron will discuss the links she observes between Art Brut and contemporary art, through the apprehension of some of the works exhibited at MIR.
