Swan Lake, orchestral suite, Op. 20a

In his new role as the OSR’s Principal Conductor, Tugan Sokhiev invites the audience on a journey into the world of Romantic ballet with Swan Lake. Joined by cellist Michiaki Ueno, winner of the 2021 Concours de Genève International Music Competition, this concert promises profound emotion, Romantic exuberance and dazzling orchestral virtuosity.
Berlioz’s vibrant Roman Carnival Overture opens the evening with infectious energy, before Dvořák’s Cello Concerto offers a striking contrast, expressing the composer’s deep nostalgia for his homeland. After the intermission, Tugan Sokhiev presents Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, distilling the ballet’s most iconic moments into a deeply personal interpretation of compelling drama and vivid storytelling.
A brilliant concert to mark this exciting new chapter in OSR’s history.
