BORDA
Borda, in Portuguese, comes from the verb bordar – “to embroider”, but it also means border, edge, periphery, outskirts, threshold or barrier.
In this new piece for ten dancers, Lia Rodrigues explores borders – real ones that divide individuals, groups and nations through hedges, fences and walls, as well as imagined ones between fear and hope, dream and reality.
By untangling and re-weaving the visible and invisible threads of these boundaries – embroidering thresholds and edges – the Brazilian choreographer opens up these transitional spaces, exposing their violence and revealing their utopian potential for reimagining the world.
