Boris Charmatz & Dimitri Chamblas I À bras-le-corps
The very first piece by Boris Charmatz and Dimitri Chamblas, À bras-le-corps signaled the breaking free from choreographic conventions at the time of its creation.
The very first piece by Boris Charmatz and Dimitri Chamblas, À bras-le-corps marked, from its creation, a liberation from choreographic conventions. It’s 1993. Boris is 19; Dimitri, 17. They share a background at the Conservatoire in Lyon—and a burning desire to break free from it.
Far from standardized bodies, the separation between choreographer and performer, or the distancing of audience and stage, they inject their rebellious youth into a dance in search of renewal—performed within a square surrounded by chairs.
Since then, the piece has never stopped touring. Over the past thirty years, it has carried all kinds of emotions and left its mark on every kind of floor. The dancers have watched their flexibility evolve, their strength solidify.
Audiences have changed, but have always remained close.
Today, on the ring where their bodies clash, play, and collide, À bras-le-corps still radiates an exhilarating intensity that continues to defy both time and gravity.
