Dhafer Youssef… his voice is a gateway to the world.
As a child, the muezzin of his neighborhood, noticing his exceptional vocal potential, encouraged him to record a call to prayer for the village mosque. Young Dhafer's voice then burst from the minaret, echoed through the streets, gained altitude, and soared toward the heavens. After eight studio albums and hundreds of performances around the world, Dhafer Youssef still remembers these resonances.
Focusing on Sufism, liturgical chant, and electro-jazz, the artist chose to make his voice an instrument that, through musical encounters and collaborations, lies at the crossroads of Eastern lyricism and contemporary jazz.
