Entepfuhl
Alina Arshi is an Indian Muslim. As a child, she emigrated to the Middle East with her parents. As a young adult, she left again, this time on her own, for Belgium. She now lives in Switzerland. Her personal life, marked by multiculturalism and the feeling of being a stranger everywhere, is just the starting point for a more general investigation into the relationship with the land, which she conducts as an amateur ethnologist and inspired choreographer.

This dance piece is a solo that measures distances and explores the friction caused by multiple and potentially contradictory identities. It is also a cartography of “exoticism” and an attempt to understand the constituent elements of what makes a home.

Under harsh neon lights, a young woman in a red jumper moves forward, carried by a conveyor belt that never slows down. She walks without thinking, tirelessly repeating the same jerky, automated gestures, a 21st-century body-machine.

For this first solo, created in 2021, Anna-Marija Adomaityte drew inspiration from her experience of working in a fast-food restaurant and from the accounts of former colleagues. The Lithuanian-born dancer and choreographer expresses the tensions to which a body at work is subjected in this cold, razor-sharp performance, effectively supported by Gautier Teuscher’s sound and lighting design.
