ETHNO FRIDAYS: SANGAM, WHERE INDIAN RAGAS MEET SWISS JAZZ

Season 24-25

Ethno Fridays: Sangam, Where Indian Ragas meet Swiss Jazz, by the Nandighosha quintet

Nandighosha is a spicy jazz group, rich in the colors and flavors of world music. Based in Switzerland, it was founded by Bijayashree Samal, a Hindustani classical singer and songwriter.
With Nandighosha, audiences enjoy original and traditional compositions based on the râga - melodic modes - and tâla - rhythmic cycles - of India's rich musical culture. The group's repertoire is an invitation to a spiritual and spontaneous experience, where improvisation reigns supreme, and the alchemy between Indian vocal ornaments and Western jazz harmonies is magically revealed.

Concert organized by Ateliers d'ethnomusicologie and AMR, with the support of the City of Geneva and Fonds culturel Sud.

Bijayashree Samal, voice, composition
Bruno Steffen , piano, Indian harmonium, composition
Ekkehard Sassenhausen, bass clarinet, saxophone
