Kukla (Slovenia, North's Macedoine)
Mihrije, Sina, and Jasna are three inseparable friends. They box together in the courtyards of Ljubljana’s outlying neighborhoods. On the cusp of adulthood, each in her own way harbors a dream: to avoid a forced marriage, to live abroad, or to pursue a career in boxing. When they meet Fantasy, a free-spirited transgender woman, their world is turned upside down, and the trio will never be the same again…
An immersive journey into Slovenia, featuring uninhibited characters who fiercely challenge conventions, brought to life by captivating non-professional actresses, set against an austere and old-fashioned backdrop, and accompanied by a vibrant soundtrack blending vocoder and Balkan turbofolk: a successful blend for a film that exudes a unique, dreamlike atmosphere.
