Among the artists of his generation, hardly anyone has experienced such a meteoric rise as Léon Phal. In just four years of a career punctuated by a prize at the Nancy Jazz Pulsations and Jazz à Vienne in 2019, the Franco-Swiss saxophonist has become the figurehead of a generation of artists who hold jazz in as high an esteem as electro. Without dissolving one into the other, Phal has never created boundaries between these passions, proving just how much they have to say to each other as long as you know how to combine them. With one of the most versatile and creative quintets on the European scene - Zacharie Ksyk, trumpet, Gauthier Toux, keyboards, Rémi Bouyssière, double bass and Arthur Alard, drums - he has released three albums, each revealing new facets of his music. The latest, Stress Killer, is a mature album, the ideal balance between all the styles he loves, from the immortal themes of John Coltrane to the rhythms of house music, from bebop to the French touch.
