A limp but lucid 40-something, he talks about money, comfort and commitment. He has progressive values too, that's not the problem, but they're in their original packaging, on a dedicated shelf, like figurines. ‘What's the point of having values if you don't use them?’ he asks himself in La formidable ascension sociale temporaire by G. Verstraeten, a show about gentrification that anaesthetises, freedom of tone and a society in upheaval. Because, paradoxically, even if we often hear that we can't say anything any more, all that, we are, according to the Belgian comedian, more than ever in the golden age of stand-up. And it would be a shame not to laugh about it.
