Hollywood Golden Age
Gone with the Wind, Lawrence of Arabia, Ben-Hur, The Ten Commandments… The Bande-Son Symphony Orchestra invites you to experience the most beautiful music from Hollywood’s Golden Age.
The Bande-Son Symphony Orchestra takes you on a journey to the origins of American film music, featuring numerous unforgettable and iconic scores: Gone with the Wind, Lawrence of Arabia, Ben-Hur, The Ten Commandments, North by Northwest, and even Wuthering Heights. Rediscover Hollywood from the 1930s to the 1960s: the era of major studios, epic productions, legendary stars, and dazzling icons.
This was the time when each studio had its own orchestra and dedicated composers. Many of these composers were trained by the greats of classical music: Erich Wolfgang Korngold was a disciple of Zemlinsky, Dimitri Tiomkin studied under Glazunov, Max Steiner received guidance from Mahler, Miklós Rózsa and Maurice Jarre worked alongside Honegger, and both Elmer Bernstein and Alex North studied with Aaron Copland.
Deeply influenced by Germanic post-Romanticism, with echoes of Wagner’s most beautiful works, the composers of Hollywood’s Golden Age forged a distinct musical identity for American films of the time. They developed new techniques in composition and orchestration, perfectly suited to grand, sweeping orchestral soundscapes.
The composers of the Golden Age laid the foundation for American film music.
