JIDDU

With Sébastien Chatellier, Kevin Fay, Tristan Ihne, Manuella Renard, Emma Terno

Jiddu is the story of a Bavarian folk dance troupe. Lacking success, they decide to diversify and go global. Little by little, the troupe begins to borrow, and even outright steal, dance steps from other countries and cultures. But this artistic shift, ethically speaking, is not well received by all the dancers.
Their quarrels with conscience are expressed and quickly escalate into a dispute. In the middle of a round, a major argument breaks out and the dance stops. Will our Bavarians succeed in making peace and picking up where they left off? Or is it time for each to follow their own path, each to their own destiny?
Between an offbeat round, an ancestral ritual and a grand contemporary celebration, virtuoso dancers ask themselves existential questions.

Marco Berrettini , an Italian dancer and choreographer, discovered dance during the 1970s in discos and in 1978 won the German disco dance championship. After taking classes in jazz dance, modern dance and ballet, he first studied at the London Contemporary Dance School and then completed his dance training at the Folkwang Hochschule under the direction of Hans Züllig and Pina Bausch. There, he discovered his interest in dance theater and choreography. To date, Marco Berrettini has created more than thirty works that stand out from the mainstream of contemporary dance. He is not afraid to explore new areas and draws his inspiration in particular from the ballet style of Georges Balanchine. His range of activities is very broad: in addition to choreographing for the stage, he creates performances in museums, collaborates with filmmakers, and works on installations with artists from the visual arts. The hallmark of many of his works is humor, through which he questions his own profession.
