A journey to the heart of musical Vienna with the Rosamonde Quartet, from Haydn’s elegance to Webern’s expressionism, and on to Schubert’s dramatic intensity.

Agnès Sulem-Bialobroda et Hugo Meder violons, Jean Sulem alto, Xavier Gagnepain violoncelle

“ROSAMONDE” QUARTET: A Musical Journey to Vienna
Agnès Sulem-Bialobroda and Hugo Meder, violins; Jean Sulem, viola; Xavier Gagnepain, cello
HAYDN: String Quartet, Op. 74, No. 3, “The Horseman”; WEBERN: Langsamer Satz;
SCHUBERT: String Quartet “Death and the Maiden,” D810.
The program explores the continuities and breaks in Viennese chamber music. Haydn’s wit and audacity, followed by Webern’s expressionism, are counterbalanced by the extraordinary dramatic power of Schubert’s masterpiece.
Formed in 1981, the Rosamonde Quartet performs on prestigious international stages and has a rich and varied discography. It is distinguished by the beauty of its sound and its profound artistic maturity.
