Marlène Monteiro Freitas I NÔT
Inspired by One Thousand and One Nights, NÔT—which means “night” in Creole—immerses us in an accumulation of stories of love, war, and travel.
Marlene Monteiro Freitas opens the Festival d’Avignon with nights full of promise.
Inspired by One Thousand and One Nights, NÔT—which means “night” in Creole—draws us into a cascading sequence of stories of love, war, and travel. Each tale ensures the survival of its narrator, in a duel between life and death, captivity and freedom, vice and virtue.
Layer by layer, wrapped in scents and invisible splashes, the “storytelling mouth” of the eccentric Cape Verdean choreographer constructs on stage a Goya-like architecture of human nature, where desire and reality, rebellion and conformity clash and entwine.
A post-show discussion will follow the performance on August 29.
