The MEG is partnering with the Afropea Cultural Centre for a programme of events around the temporary exhibition ‘Afrosonica – Soundscapes’. Temporary exhibition. 7 December from 2pm to 3.15pm.

Sounds that heal
As part of the MEG's new exhibition entitled ‘Afrosonica – Soundscapes’, the Afropea Cultural Centre invites their president Nayansaku Mufwankolo for a poetry reading on the theme of healing, an exploration of Egyptian Zâr and its de-synchronisations, as well as its current practice with Mahmoud Khattab, an Egyptian artist.
The day's programme will also begin with an introduction to music through sacred songs performed by Maïlé Kalokura Medecine, shaman, astrologer, somatic educator, practitioner of sacred sounds and cacao, and guide/mentor in the healing arts.
Maïlé Kalokura – sacred song ritual
Proposal for group healing through sacred singing, vibrations and the transmission of ancestral African knowledge.
Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes.
In French.
Sacred songs are much more than just musical expression: they are ancestral medicine, a living language that transcends time and space to awaken buried memories, heal wounds and restore harmony between body, heart, mind and soul. Inspired by African, shamanic and Sufi initiatory traditions, this practice invites us to remember who we are, to rediscover our intimate connection with the sacred and with the forces that have always animated us.
In her practice, Maïlé Kalokura weaves her voice with the drum, harmonium, guitar and other medicine instruments, giving birth to intuitive songs,
incantations, praises and living poems. These songs, sometimes repeated like mantras or carried like prayers, act as sound portals: they calm the mind, open the heart, liberate the body and awaken the spirit.
For this CCA@MEG programme, she has designed a unique session where the transmission of ancestral knowledge is combined with the direct and therapeutic experience of intuitive singing, so that everyone can explore this path of healing and bring peace and harmony back into themselves.

This event is organised in collaboration with the Afropea Cultural Centre and the MEG – Geneva Museum of Ethnography.
