Monty Alexander “D-Day” – 80th Anniversary Concert
For his 80th birthday, Monty will be in trio with his new album “D-Day”, an ode to heroism and freedom, with his own compositions and a repertoire of classics.
6 June 1944, the day the Allies landed in Normandy, marked a turning point in the Second World War. But not only that: D-Day was also Monty Alexander’s birthday! A highly symbolic historical coincidence that the legendary jazz pianist likes to make his own, as his first name is also a tribute to General Montgomery, the famous liberator. For his 80th birthday, Monty will be in trio with his new album D-Day, an ode to heroism and freedom, with his own compositions and a repertoire of classics written during this troubled period, such as Brazil, I'll Never Smile Again and Charlie Chaplin’s Smile. Monty is sure to delight us once again with his Caribbean joie de vivre and astounding virtuosity. He will delight us with swing, classics, reggae and calypso rhythms. Exclusively at Victoria Hall Geneva.
