NÔT
A performance in the form of a fable, born from the accumulation of various tales, some about love, others about war; some about travel, and others about animals.
These are tales-as-weapons, ensuring the storyteller’s survival in a duel between imagination and a petrified heart. They are tales-of-lamentation, honouring the absent, in a duel between life and death, imprisonment and freedom, vice and virtue, reality and desire.
For this new piece, premiered at the Festival d’Avignon, Cape Verdean choreographer Marlene Monteiro Freitas showcases her distinctive art, which heightens bodily and facial expressiveness, intertwining choreographic and musical composition, while drawing inspiration from One Thousand and One Nights.
