Synopsis: One is the son of a farmer from Vaud, the other the son of a Kabyle sea urchin fisherman who became naturalized. Stéphane and Mehdi are Swiss. Therefore, neutral. In fact, it’s the only DNA marker they share with a Zurich banker or a Toggenburg wrestler.
Still, it’s rather strange to have elevated neutrality to the status of a supreme national value. But what does it actually mean? Does it mean being without flavor, without smell, without courage or, on the contrary, being clever and fair? Can one truly be neutral, and at what point does one stop being so?
As the sound of marching boots echoes across Europe and the old world begins to crumble, Stéphane and Mehdi set off on a global and introspective road trip in search of this unique status, haunted by the fear that it might disappear. A quirky identity quest at the heart of a national crisis of conscience.
