Lima, summer 1992. Elena and her daughters Lucia and Aurora are preparing to leave Peru, shaken by social and political unrest, for the United States. Driven by contradictory feelings, the three women contemplate the separation from their country, their family, their friends and Carlos, their father and ex-husband. Carlos, an eccentric but charming character, had not been seen for some time. Now that the departure date is approaching, he is trying to get closer to his daughters again...
The film will be shown at the Cinémas du Grütli from 4 September.
Klaudia Reynicke left Peru for Europe at the age of ten with part of her family. With LOVE ME TENDER (2019), the Swiss-Peruvian director established an international reputation. In her latest opus, REINAS, inspired by her own life, she recounts the challenges that children and parents face when they find themselves at a turning point in their lives, and the fears, hopes and need to belong that they experience.
