Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, by Hayao Miyazaki
Seven days of fire have completely destroyed the world as we know it. The Earth, now barren, is populated by enormous mutant insects and covered in giant poisonous fungi. The planet is engulfed by the toxic Sea of Corruption.
Scattered across the tiny remaining patches of land around the Sea of Corruption, small warring kingdoms seek to destroy one another. The Valley of the Wind, a kingdom of barely 500 inhabitants who lead a simple but happy life, is somewhat protected from the Sea’s toxic vapours by the ocean breezes. Nausicaä is the daughter of Jihl, the king of the Valley. She flies on the wind like a bird. She possesses a mysterious affinity with nature and can communicate with the giant insects, the Oomu, who watch over the abandoned, poisoned lands.
The peace of the Valley of the Wind is shattered when a war for control of the last remaining lands reaches Jihl’s kingdom. Nausicaä must then race against time to prevent the two enemies from using their weapons of mass destruction: a huge robot soldier and the Oomu, fearsome giant insects unleashed…
