« Swells » Truls Mørk and the Geneva Chamber Orchestra
Contemplating means absorbing ourselves in the observation of what is available to our senses. And what can we learn from it?
Nothing that can be monetised, but an access to reality that some call poetic, others aesthetic, while still others speak of resonance. As if the world were looking back at us. In Debussy's La Mer and Dutilleux's Tout un Monde lointain, that immense cello concerto whose 3rd movement, Houles, lends its name to the evening, music takes on all the qualities of sound to make itself colours, shapes, movements, and why not also scents and sensations.
For this contemplative experience centred on the works of these two great masters of orchestration, the OCG is expanding its ranks with a host of guests, including cellist Truls Mørk and Erik Orsenna, who will be reading texts of his choice based on Baudelaire's La Chevelure, one of the lines of which begins ‘tout un monde lointain...’. The icing on the cake is Raphaël Merlin's orchestration of Wave, a bossa nova theme by the inimitable Antônio Carlos Jobim.
