The Crassulaceae: the adaptation geniuses

Led by a gardener and a botanist, discover the fascinating Crassulaceae family, sometimes called succulents, fleshy plants with amazing shapes and ingenious adaptations.

The Crassulaceae family includes some of the most remarkable and beloved plants in our homes and gardens. But above all, they are champions of adaptation to extreme conditions.

With nearly 1,500 species distributed across some thirty genera, they are distinguished by their fleshy leaves, striking shapes, and astonishing survival strategies. Originating from diverse regions—from the cliffs of South Africa to the high plateaus of Mexico, by way of the Mediterranean and the mountains of Asia and Europe—these plants have developed a unique way of life, perfectly adapted to arid environments.

During this guided tour through our temperate and tropical botanical collections, our specialist gardener will share his practical experience and field knowledge: how to cultivate, observe, and care for these plants. Our dendrologist will provide scientific and historical insights: their origin, distribution, and mechanisms of adaptation.

Together, they will invite you to explore the great diversity of this family and discover the secrets that have made the Crassulaceae a subject of study and admiration for centuries.
