The Earth’s Fire, A human adventure
This UNIGE exhibition takes visitors on an immersive journey to the heart of volcanoes, combining science, stories and legends.
Since the dawn of time, volcanoes have fascinated us with their majestic silhouette and the power of their eruptions. They have played an ambivalent role in human history, both feared for their dangers and revered for the riches they offer. This is why men and women throughout the ages have sought to observe them, to understand them, to recount their mysteries and even to try to decipher the warning signs of their wrath.
How do volcanoes work? How powerful can an eruption really be? Can they be forecasted and their effects mitigated? And how do human beings, past and present, pass on their knowledge of these giants of fire?
These are just some of the questions that feed the imagination and knowledge, and that this exhibition invites you to explore by touching, experimenting and listening.
