Piano and female composers

Some friendships change the course of a life. Others change the course of music history.
This exceptional evening celebrates the bonds of camaraderie, support, and inspiration that unite female artists across generations.
The first part of the concert brings together mezzo-soprano Valerie Eickhoff and pianist Eleanora Pertz—a German-American duo acclaimed on major European stages. Through works by composers such as Nadia and Lili Boulanger, as well as Florence Price and Margaret Bonds, they explore the artistic friendships that fueled musical creation and enabled many women to find their voices in a world that did not always make room for them.
In the second part, pianist Vanessa Wagner—a leading figure on the classical music scene—takes the audience on a journey into the worlds of major contemporary composers such as Meredith Monk, Caroline Shaw, and Camille Pépin. Heirs to a long lineage of female creators, they are reinventing the musical landscape today with boldness and freedom.
Blending recital, musical dialogue, and unexpected encounters, the evening also promises a few artistic surprises created especially for the festival.
