VIEILLEICHT
With Cédric Djedje & Safi Martin Ye
The company Absent-e pour le moment, using a set-up that is as close as possible to the audience, retraces for us their wanderings through Berlin's "African quarter".
The ghosts of the three German colonisers still lurk there, honoured by street names.
The many voices of activists campaigning for the renaming of these streets and those gathered during a research residency also echo here.
While we wait for these changes to happen, or for them to happen, this show weaves the fabric of happy futures by inventing rituals and interweaving stories.
The stage alternates between moments of ritualised play, recounted stories, re-enactments of scenes from the Berlin trip and live interviews with activists.
With humour, love and commitment, the company assembles these different materials to create a political and intimate documentary theatre that can do justice, or at least nourish the memory of past and present anti-colonial struggles.

The Compagnie Absent-e pour le moment was founded in 2020 by Cédric Djedje.
Based on fieldwork in foreign or strange territories, its aim is to explore the relationship between documentary and fiction and the blending of disciplines through the prism of postcolonial theories.
Vielleicht - perhaps in German - is the company's first project.

THE PRESS SPEAKS OF IT __
« It's the acting of the performers, in their military jackets with stripes, that grips you and sends shivers down your spine in this scene that summons Bismark and his colonialist friends in an anthological satire. Vielleicht's enterprise is commendable and rare.» - Le Courrier
« And that's how Vielleicht came about, by dint of travelling back and forth between Geneva and Berlin and interviews with the inhabitants of the African quarter, a play that is part documentary, part research diary and part intimate. We learn a bit of history, we travel, we sometimes laugh and we learn a bit more about our identity.» - RTS Vertigo
« You can't help but be impressed by this committed, extremely well-documented and well-constructed show, imagined by Cédric Djedje and the Cie Absent-e pour le moment. A strong, committed show, but never one that makes you feel guilty.» - La Pépinière
