Explore Geneva beyond the UN: its diplomatic, aristocratic, and prestigious heritage. Visit historical parks and iconic sites like the UN, Red Cross, and Wilson Palace, and immerse yourself in the fascinating history of the city.
When thinking of International Geneva, the first image that comes to mind is often that of the United Nations and the many international organizations headquartered in the city. Although these institutions play a central role in Geneva’s global influence today, they represent only one facet of its international identity. For centuries, Geneva has been a crossroads of diplomacy, culture, and power, long before the creation of the League of Nations or the UN.
Since the Middle Ages, Geneva has built a reputation as a center of knowledge, commerce, and a refuge for thinkers, aristocrats, and political figures. In the 18th century, it became a popular destination for European elites, drawn by its peaceful lakeside landscapes and serene atmosphere. Many of them acquired vast estates along the shores of Lake Geneva, building lavish residences surrounded by beautiful gardens. Over time, these private lands were transformed into public parks, each with a unique history, secrets, and fascinating links to Geneva’s past.
This tour invites you to go beyond the well-known institutions and explore another side of International Geneva. We will walk through the city’s historic parks, once the retreats of diplomats, politicians, and wealthy celebrities, now accessible to all. Along the way, we will also discover some of the most iconic sites of global diplomacy, including the United Nations, the Red Cross Museum, and the Wilson Palace, the first headquarters of the League of Nations.
The tour takes place every Sunday at 10 AM, from May to October.
